Pattaya Thailand Hotels

The main considerations for choosing one of the Pattaya Thailand Hotels for your stay:

  • Location
  • Comfort
  • Cost, but not as much as location and comfort.

The costs for Pattaya hotels is far less than any western city in a highly touristy area.  That is one of the best reasons you can enjoy a nice longer stay in Pattaya...a relatively low cost for your lodging so you can spend more on other things.

My hotel costs have been running about $50 USD a night on all my Pattaya trips.  I would need to spend $250 to $350 to get a similar room in a great location in the US.  Maybe more.

Since cost of rooms is only a minor consideration, you can focus on comfort and location.

Location and comfort have to be looked at together.  It does no good if the hotel room is super comfortable if it is so far from the action you think twice about doing things or going out.

It also does no good if the hotel is super convenient but so uncomfortable you cannot get any rest and find it unpleasant to hang out at during your downtime.

Some research, planning and thinking is necessary when choosing from the hundreds of Good Hotels in Pattaya Thailand.

Pattaya Thailand Hotels Best Location

If you are planning on spending quite a bit of time enjoying Pattaya's nightlife, then stay in the Central Pattaya area.

Central Pattaya AreaCentral Pattaya Area

Central Pattaya Location

Central Pattaya  bounded on the west by Beach Road (near the ocean) and extends easterly to 3rd Road.  It starts on the south at South Pattaya Road (near Walking Street) and extends northerly to Central Pattaya Road.

This is a condensed area, but it is quite large and you will be walking a lot even if you strategically use the baht bus, Bolt, Grab, motorbike taxis or regular taxis.

You have to have enough vitality to walk around quite a bit.  But you will have sore feet and be exhausted by the end of the night.

Staying in the Central Pattaya area ensures you are close to the action and can mitigate the extent of walking.

There are hundreds of hotels to choose from.  You should not have a problem finding a room.  The problem will be finding the perfect room for you, in a great location that is available for the time you will be in Pattaya.

I have a favorite hotel at this point, with a preferred room style that books up fast.

Consider Noise When Looking at Pattaya Thailand Hotels

Another location consideration is if the hotel is right on one of the main entertainment roads.

Unless it is well insulated, your room is on a very high floor and you can sleep through anything, it will be impossible to sleep until after bar time every night.

Process I Use to Determine Which Hotel to Book

Hotel Choosing Process

  • 1 Browser tab open to Google Flights
  • 1 Browser tab open to hotel booking App and Map View
  • 1 Browser tab open to the Pattaya Map
  • Looking at pictures and reviews on the hotels
  • Compare hotel location to locations of what I plan on doing
  • Personal calendar handy showing work and personal commitments
  • Credit card ready to book hotel and flight within minutes of each other

While I have my hotel booking website open on my computer, I am concurrently looking at my work calendar, my personal calendar, the Pattaya map, and Google flights on my computer.

I want to verify that the flight I want to take (arrive and departs) works with the nights the hotel I’d like to stay at is available.

I'm also looking at pictures and reviews of the hotel online to see how it looks and what type of amenities it has.

I'm also looking at the location to make sure I am close enough to the action.

And most importantly, I need to plan my trip, so it doesn’t conflict with work or personal commitments.

It would be best if you go through the process a number of times before you book, i.e. practice a few times.  Get comfortable and go all the way to the point where you enter your credit card information, then shut everything down.

That's what I do over the course of a day or 2.

On your first trip it is recommended to only book the first 3 or 4 days so you can find out if you like the area.

Main Things to Look for When Booking a Pattaya Thailand Hotel

Look For When Choosing a Hotel

Hotel Room Must Have's

  • Queen or larger bed
  • Large toilet
  • Quiet AC
  • Bigger shower
  • Good bathroom lighting
  • Room safe
  • A chair
  • A desk
  • A way to make coffee
  • Storage
  • Refrigerator
  • A balcony

Hotel Location Has To Be

  • Close to Conveniences. 7-11, money exchange, laundry, pharmacy, barber shop, restaurants, coffee shops, bars, massage shops
  • Close to Fun.  I spend a bit more so most of the time I can find fun and do a lot just by walking to it and do not need transportation
  • Guest Friendly.  Bring a guest to your room for no added cost or be turned away.  Hotel protection by holding your guest’s ID card/signing for it before going into your room.  The hotel staff can help you sort out any problems.

Hotel Nice To Have's

  • Pool.  Work on your color/Vitamin D, exercise, loosen up sore spots, inexpensive relaxation, chat with guests, pool party
  • Lobby Chairs.  Hang out during rains, wait for your ride, chat with guests.
  • Coffee Shop.  When you are rundown or too exhausted to go out

Guest Friendly

If you book a hotel in Central Pattaya and any of the ones I suggest, you should be good.  You want to be able to bring a guest (Thai lady you just met) into your hotel room and not be charged anything and not be given a hard time.

You also want the hotel to hold the ladies’ ID card and have her sign for it before you both go up to your room.  This is to protect you.  If there is a problem (dispute about money, she takes something, etc.) the hotel has her ID and can help you sort this out.

I have not had anything like this happen.

Walking distance to the Action

I spend a bit more so most of the time I can find fun and do a lot just by walking to it and do not need transportation.

Walking distance to main Conveniences

7-11, money exchange, laundry, pharmacy, barber shop, restaurants, coffee shops, bars, store to buy bottled water and junk food, mall, massage shops.  You are going to need all these services over your trip.

Comfortable enough Chair

I only lay in bed, I don’t find sitting in bed to be comfortable at all.  I need a good chair to work on my computer, write in my Journal book, make notes, drink coffee and eat a snack or leftovers.

Sometimes I have upgraded to a larger room with an even more comfortable chair and couch. That type of room is not always available in the hotel I like.

Storage

I like a closet to hang up my shirts and shorts and to stow away my shoes.  I like drawers and shelves to put away the rest of my clothes and all my smaller items.

Once I’m in Pattaya, I don’t want to live out of my suitcase, I empty it totally and put things away in a logical place.

Good Bathroom

I think a good bathroom is critical, especially for an aging man overseas with far different types of food.  A big, decent toilet and big shower.

Balcony

I like to sit outside in the early morning enjoying my coffee, reflecting on the fun I had the night before and planning my day.

I sit out in the late afternoon too, planning my night.

It's even more of a bonus if you can get some sun on your balcony, but many will be mostly shade.

Way to make Coffee

Most hotels will provide a few packets of instant coffee each day and a way to boil water.  I buy some extra, better tasting, instant coffee at 7-11.

Refrigerator

I keep my water chilled and like milk for my coffee.  I may want to have a few beers and a few soda’s available also.  Maybe some leftovers.

Room Safe

It is critical to keep your passport, money and credit cards locked up safely.

Big (king size if possible), Comfortable Bed

In addition to sleeping every night and taking naps, you may choose to entertain guests in your bed.

Pool

I think it’s critical on a tropical trip to enjoy hanging out at the pool.  I like to get some sun, paddle around and just enjoy it as an inexpensive diversion.

You could also party a bit at the pool having a few drinks and bringing some friends or ladies.  I kind of stumbled into a nice pool party one afternoon with a group of guys from Israel and some ladies they knew.  It was quite fun.

Comfortable Seating in the Lobby

Maybe not a huge consideration, but on a rainy day or while waiting for your room to be available, or waiting for you ride, it is nice to hang out here.

Pattaya Thailand Hotels Wrap Up

There are hundreds of Pattaya Thailand hotels to choose from.  Go on your booking App and review their location on the map and compare them to the Central Pattaya area to make sure of the location.

Critically look at the pictures and reviews before making a decsion.

It is recommended to only book the first 3 or 4 days of your first trip so that you have a place to stay when you arrive, but you can move somewhere else if you find some place better or a different location.
